Read:

WONDER WOMAN VOL. 2: YEAR ONE by Greg Rucka
MEDDLING KIDS by Edgar Cantero
BLACK SCIENCE, VOL. 2: WELCOME, NOWHERE by Rick Remender
BEHIND CLOSED DOORS by B.A. Paris
IN A DARK, DARK WOOD by Ruth Ware
RAT QUEENS, VOL. 1: SASS & SORCERY by Kurtis Wiebe
WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Brontë
NOTHING STAY BURIED by P.J. Tracy

July was another successful month for me! I managed to read 3 graphic novels and 5 books despite getting slowed down with life events while reading WUTHERING HEIGHTS. I think if I had been reading a thriller it would have been easier for me to jump in whenever and pick it up as opposed to a classic.

This month in graphic novels I continued on with my WONDER WOMAN and BLACK SCIENCE journeys. WONDER WOMAN blew it out of the park with a fantastic backstory arch that had me hooked! I’m a little worried because I heard Vol. 3 (publishing August 2017) is a bit of a struggle in the story department similar to Vol. 1, but I’ll still be heading to the comic story to pick it up. Unfortunately, BLACK SCIENCE just didn’t do it for me, as I wasn’t drawn in to the kid focused aspects. I’ll be continuing on with the series because I’m still curious on where the League’s next adventure will take them!

Hands down my favorite book of the month was BEHIND CLOSED DOORS! B.A. Paris knocked a home run out of the park with this one! Everything about it was fantastic. I have heard mixed reviews on her latest release, but once I’m off my book buying ban I plan to snag a copy. IN A DARK, DARK WOOD and NOTHING STAYS BURIED were also fantastic thriller/crime fiction reads for me this month. I read THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 earlier in the year and while I think it was better than IN A DARK, DARK WOOD, that didn’t stop me from yet again not being able to put down a Ruth Ware novel! Her latest will also be picked up post-ban. When I received the ARC for NOTHING STAYS BURIED I was so worried that it was the 8th installment in a series. I hate to read books out of order, but it didn’t bother me at all with this novel once I finally got over my personal issues! I will definitely be looking further into the MONKEEWRENCH series and picking up previous releases in the near future.

MEDDLING KIDS took me on a journey down memory lane with a campy story tying together Scooby Doo and HP Lovecraft elements. I saw a lot of reviews from people that it wasn’t for them, but I have to say I loved the fun and creep factor this one brought to the table! In a completely opposite direction from my typical reads, I picked up WUTHERING HEIGHTS as part of my classic books challenge and fell hard for this romantic tragedy. So many feelings!

I’m so pleased with how the month of July went. I’m looking forward to picking up a couple NetGalley approvals in August for some titles I’ve been eying and getting back to a little Nordic Noir! Happy reading!
