Weekly Reads: February 4th

Happy Monday, readers! I’m feeling very positive about this week and my February reading goals. Since this is the shortest month of the year and I have a handful of new release commitments I need to fulfill, I believe I’ll be taking time off of my series reads. I’m a little worried this will mean I’ll start to slip on reading them, but I’m going to be positive about my commitment and at the latest, be back to reading Harry Hole and Dark Iceland in April.

Over the weekend I started two books, THE SILENT PATIENT and BLUE NIGHT. I am loving both of these books so far! THE SILENT PATIENT is hitting US shelves tomorrow and is the first release from MacMillan’s newest imprint, Celadon Books. I’m a little over halfway through and completely hooked on this story! I was expecting Michaelides to focus more on the patient, but he’s totally thrown me by centering the narration around the psychotherapist. I love learning about both Alicia and Theo and can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next!

BLUE NIGHT is the first English translated book in Simone Buchholz’s Chas Riley series. I didn’t realize that this was actually book six until I went to add it to my Goodreads as a current read. The book centers around state prosecutor, Chastity Riley, but at the end of the day, Buchholz’s story has a laundry list of characters who are all connected together. It’s quite interesting trying to determine where Riley’s current case will take her and I love learning more about her life as I get further into the book. I’ll be on tour later this month for the next book in the series, BETON ROUGE, so stay tuned for thoughts on both!

A while ago I made the embarrassing bookish confession that I’ve never read anything by Peter Swanson. This week when I was debating what audiobook I wanted to entertain me on my commute I stumbled upon ALL THE BEAUTIFUL LIES on my unread bookshelf. I’m only a handful of chapters into the book, so I don’t have any solid opinions formed at this point. I will say that I’m finding the characters of Alice and Harry to be quite interesting and love how Swanson has decided to split the story between “now” and “then”.

Later this week I’ll be starting my February Stephen King read of DUMA KEY. I feel like this book goes under the radar often when talking about King, but I’ve seen it on a lot of Constant Reader’s favorites lists. I’m definitely looking forward to finding out what it’s all about!

I’ll also be starting THE RECKONING, which is book two in Yrsa Sigurdardottir’s Children’s House series. I adored THE LEGACY last month and can’t wait to pick back up with this series!
