MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER | Oyinkan Braithwaite

Rating: 5/5 stars
Korede’s sister has a problem. She has a very inconvenient habit of killing her boyfriends. Each time Ayoola has a reason for the murder and each time she expects Korede to help her clean up her problems. Ayoola is the favorite child, the beautiful one, and the sister that Korede would do anything for, but how much is too much? When Ayoola sets her sights on Korede’s coworker and crush, to be her next love interest, Korede’s level of acceptance will be pushed to the limits.
MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER is a modern day thriller filled with dark humor and plenty of bite! From the minute the reader opens the pages of this book you are instantly invested in the lives of Korede and Ayoola, as you tag along to clean up the body of Ayoola’s latest kill. Watching the sisters interact with each other and getting into Korede’s mind during such an intense moment serves to create a solid bond that will carry the reader through this short novel.
This story is based in Nigeria and the inclusion of cultural elements from the country play a critical role in the lives of our main characters. The culture that surrounds Korede and Ayoola also plays into the decisions that they choose to make throughout their lives and their current situations. I love stepping outside of America and being transported to another place through books and I felt that Braithwaite fully accomplished that with this book.
MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER may ring in at a little over 220 pages, but it’s jam packed with incredible features. The writing and the level of humor that Braithwaite is able to include in a book that could be much darker completely blew me away! In addition to the phenomenal writing, the short chapters kept me rapidly consuming this one. This is easily a book that could be read in one sitting! In case you can’t tell…I loved everything about this book! I highly recommend adding it to your TBR ASAP!
