Emmett is an elderly funeral home worker who is struggling to cope with the loss of his wife. He can’t bring himself to change the sheets from the last night she slept in their bed. Emmett knows that he needs to move forward in his life. He’ll never forget his wife, but he can’t spend his days in a state of isolation the way he has been. • The corpse of a young woman arrives at the funeral home one day and Emmett can’t shake the uncanny resemblance the woman has to a younger version of his wife. He soon finds himself with an unnatural attraction to the corpse. How far is Emmett willing to let himself go before the loneliness of his life swallows him whole? • STIRRING THE SHEETS is my first novella by Chad Lutzke, but I think it’s safe to say it certainly won’t be my last! The minute I picked up this tiny book I felt a strong connection to the narrator, Emmett. Lutzke’s writing radiates the feelings of desperation and loneliness that encompasses Emmett’s life. Each page pulled on my heart strings as Emmett describes his daily routine. The monotony of working at the funeral home and dealing with his youthful and obnoxious neighbor. • Emmett’s life is forever changed with the corpse of a young woman who resembles his wife. The lengths that Emmett is willing to go to in order to fill the void his wife left behind are heartbreaking in a way that makes the reader ask themselves, would I do that? While there is little that brings Emmett joy, the reader also feels a sense of hope for his future. While you might find his actions unsettling, Lutke’s writing instills within the reader a yearning for a better life for Emmett. Do you ever go a bit overboard celebrating #bookmail? I’m 100% guilty! I could not contain my excitement when I opened this package from @orendabooks! • I read and loved The Ice Swimmer from Kjell Ola Dahl last year, so I can’t wait to see what comes next! I’ve also been eyeing Overkill by Vanda Symon, which is the predecessor for The Ringmaster, for an eternity...you know I ordered it from Book Depository immediately after opening this! 😂 • These two lovely books will be hitting my TBR soon, so be sure to keep an eye out! 🖤🕵🏼‍♀️

Dr. Louis Creed has landed a new job, which takes his family from Chicago to the rural town of Ludlow, Maine. Their new house is located in a quiet section of the town and seems to be the perfect place for the Creed family to start over. The only thing they don’t love are the eighteen-wheeler trucks that fly down the road outside their new home. The Creed’s know these trucks are dangerous, but the makeshift burial ground for lost pets located in the woods behind their home truly shows how many lives those trucks have taken. • There’s something strange about that burial ground and it’s not just the fact that it’s filled with all of the neighborhoods lost pets or that children will go their alone or with friends to bury their lost furry companions. There is a sense of unease Louis can’t quite shake and once he learns the truth, his life will be changed forever. There is more than just death there. I am so excited for this week’s TBR! • I’ve been making my way through Blackout over the weekend and I’m hooked! I love the Dark Iceland series from @ragnarjo and being back with Ari Thor is always a treat! • My audiobook for Nine Perfect Strangers took nothing short of forever to be released into my grubby hands. I just got it Friday from the library, so no official opinions yet. • Creatures of Want & Ruin is from my January @night_worms box and I’ll be participating in the read-along they’re hosting! I made it to the first checkpoint last night and had such a hard time stopping! • The rest of the week will be dedicated to Nemesis by Jo Nebso and the novella Out Behind the Barn, both of which are highly anticipated reads from my TBR! • What are you reading this week? 🖤🕵🏼‍♀️

I’m jealous of everyone with their 3 day weekend...I’ll be over here hanging with Ari Thor to fend off the Sunday scaries! I just adore Ragnar Jonasson’s Dark Iceland series and Blackout is proving to be another excellent installment in the series!

Well November came and went quite a while ago now, but I realized I never showed off my @abominablebook package! This was my first subscription delivery for this box and I absolutely loved the experience! • I actually was lucky enough to already have read (and adored) The Lingering. My finished copy is now sitting with my proof copy and I couldn’t be happier! • My surprise used book selection was from Dean Koontz, who is an author I’ve read one book by ages ago. I’m definitely looking forward to checking out more with this book! • The goodies! 🤤 Those shortbread cookies were divine and the hot chocolate was perfect for a cold night. • Final thoughts: This UK based subscription box has such a great concept behind it and I loved my box! Stay tuned for an unboxing of the December box soon!
