I can’t believe it’s the last week of August! Maryland had the most beautiful weather last week and now we’re experiencing a heat wave. I just want chillier temperatures and pumpkin spice lattes and blanket scarves already!
This week I’m planning to read…
This is the week I finish THE STAND! Can you believe it?? I certainly can’t! This book is downright amazing and I’m dying to know how it all ends. Our last discussion is slated for Sunday, but I’m going to aim to be an overachiever and get this one done by Thursday or Friday, so I can include it in my August wrap up post.
Last night I started HOUSE OF SPINES and after about 75 pages, I can easily tell you I’m hooked. This one is such an intriguing read. So far I can tell that the house and Ranald’s family have some big hidden secrets, but I have zero guesses at exactly what will happen. I love when that happens! I feel like a lot of crime fiction books can tend to sway in the same direction or plotline, but so far I’m not getting that vibe. What I am getting is major Gothic feels from the house and a huge sense of unease. I love it!
Speaking of great starts to books, let’s talk CONFESSIONS by Kanae Minato. I read PENANCE by the same author earlier this year and was blown away. This one is no different. I found this one available on audiobook on Scribd and knew I wanted to end my month giving it a listen. The narrator has this great soothing delivery of just jaw dropping events, which is 100% how I read Minato’s books. It’s going to be another week of me trying to sit in my car as long as possible before heading into work!
THE GUILTY DEAD is the book I’m calling my first September read. Last year I got my first taste of the Monkeewretch crew and thought they were a delightful group of crime solvers! I can’t wait to see what creepy case they’re working on this time.
What are you reading this week? Have you read any of these titles?
